To develop new treatment algorithms, the National Center for Brain Tumor Research consists of 20 research groups covering different aspects of five focus areas:

  1. Tumor heterogeneity
  2. Dispersal mechanisms and tumor environment
  3. Treatment resistance
  4. Local control
  5. Targeted drug treatment

The center is part of the Danish Comprehensive Cancer Center and the infrastructure and part of the research funding have been made possible by a 5-year donation from The Danish Cancer Society.

In addition, all principal investigators of the 20 research groups form part of the center’s steering group together with the chairman of The Brain Tumor Association and a patient representative.

The center is supported by an international scientific advisory board consisting of:

  • Professor and Director, Webster K. Cavenee, Head of Strategic Research of Brain Tumors, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, University of California, San Diego, USA.
  • Professor and Director, Dr. Manfred Westphal, Department of Neurosurgery, University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany.
