To develop new treatment algorithms, the National Center for Brain Tumor Research consists of 20 research groups covering different aspects of five focus areas:
- Tumor heterogeneity
- Dispersal mechanisms and tumor environment
- Treatment resistance
- Local control
- Targeted drug treatment
The center is part of the Danish Comprehensive Cancer Center and the infrastructure and part of the research funding have been made possible by a 5-year donation from The Danish Cancer Society.
Ulrik Lassen and Hans Skovgaard Poulsen are co-directors of the Center, supported by a secretariat headed by Anne-Marie Bach. In addition, all principal investigators of the 20 research groups form part of the center’s steering group together with the chairman of The Brain Tumor Association and a patient representative.
The center is supported by an international scientific advisory board consisting of:
- Professor and Director, Webster K. Cavenee, Head of Strategic Research of Brain Tumors, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, University of California, San Diego, USA.
- Professor and Director, Dr. Manfred Westphal, Department of Neurosurgery, University Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany.
