A celebration for two researchers related to the DCCC Brain Tumor Center

Took place March 14, 2022 at a small reception with friends and associates congratulating the appointment of Benedikte Hasselbalch and Søren Møller both as chief physicians.

Benedikte Hasselbalch, MD, PhD, Chief Physician

Soon after I started at The Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), in 2004, I met Hans Skovgaard Poulsen and with him as my mentor, I was introduced the field of neuro-oncology.

My previous and present research is focusing on medical treatment of primary brain tumors, especially with focus on translational research and targeted treatment of high-grade gliomas.

I have initiated and is the principal investigator on several ongoing clinical trials and I participate in the weekly National Tumor Board meeting.

Being a member of The Scientific Committee in The European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) and board member of the Danish Neuro-Oncology Group/ Dansk Neuro-Onkologisk Gruppe (DNOG) gives me an opportunity to strengthen international and national co-operations and knowledge sharing in order to continue to offer treatment based on evidence on the highest possible level for patients with high-grade glioma.

Søren Møller, MD, PhD, Chief Physician

I’ve worked with Hans Skovgaard as my mentor within the field of neuro-oncology since 2007.

My main research focus has been radiotherapy of primary brain tumors as well as brain metastases.

Currently working on a four-year research project grounded in the DCCC Oligo Work Package regarding stereotactic radiosurgery for brain metastases. A large clinical database has been generated and a prospective clinical trial examining re-irradiation is being carried out.
Long time close collaboration with the Danish Brain Tumor Association (‘HjernetumorForeningen’) as an educator of patients and caregivers through lectures, informational videos and an online QA-forum.
